A character illustration gives a printed cotton bag a different feel from a logo alone. For KISKIS, a Finnish cat-furniture brand operated by Innowoodion Oy, we printed 300 grey cotton tote bags in July 2019.
The design combined the brand name and website with a large cat illustration. Three colours were printed on one side of each bag, bringing the lettering and character together in a single layout.
The cat sits below the lettering with one paw raised. Its large ears, curved tail and simple expression make it the most prominent part of the design. There is space around the character, so the illustration remains separate from the text above.
The brand name appears at the top, with the website directly underneath. The cat illustration relates to the furniture business while giving the bag a playful appearance.
Pink, white and black each have a clear role in the artwork. Pink appears in the main lettering and details of the cat, while white fills the character and the website text. Black outlines define the shape and facial features.
The grey fabric remains visible around the print and between the separate elements.
The project used a 140 g/m² cotton tote bag measuring 38 × 42 cm, with long handles for carrying over the shoulder. Its plain front provided the space for both the illustration and the smaller lettering.
