Printed cotton bags for theatres – space for the message
Printed cotton bags for theatres were made for Aleksanterin teatteri in August 2018. The order comprised 200 white tote bags. Its artwork represented the contemporary dance company Susanna Leinonen Company. A large written message filled the front, with the company name beneath it. Two print colours appeared on one side of each bag.
One word highlighted in red
The message reads “Are you one of those they call nasty women?” across several lines. Most of the lettering is black, while NASTY appears in red. That single colour change gives the sentence a clear point of emphasis.
The company name is smaller and sits below the main message. It identifies the dance company without competing with the larger words. White cotton remains visible between the lines and around the print, providing the background for both ink colours.
A familiar bag for theatre artwork
The bag has a flat cotton body and long handles for shoulder carrying. Its upright front accommodates the stacked lettering, allowing a complete sentence to form the main graphic without a separate illustration.
The ordering theatre and the company represented in the design have distinct roles in this project. Aleksanterin teatteri placed the order, while the artwork was for Susanna Leinonen Company. The 200-bag order brought the dance company’s message onto white cotton through a black-and-red print on one side.
