For Værftet, a youth and cultural centre in Denmark, we printed 300 orange cotton tote bags in March 2019. The order used white printing on one side, with the words “TRO PÅ DET” forming the main design.
The short message is arranged over three lines. Each word has its own space, turning the lettering into a large graphic across the front of the bag.
The letters vary in size and angle, giving the message a lively appearance. The line breaks keep the words separate, while their close arrangement makes them read as one design.
The text follows the upright shape of the bag. There is no illustration beside it, so the lettering carries the whole message.
White ink stands out against the orange cotton. The fabric remains visible inside and around the letters, helping to define their shapes without adding another print colour.
The centre’s name appears in much smaller white lettering near the bottom. It identifies the organisation while leaving the large message as the main feature.
The long handles allow shoulder carrying and leave the text visible across the bag front. The orange fabric is part of the design, giving the white lettering its background.
For your own text, the length of the message and the line breaks are useful starting points. This project shows how a few words can fill a bag without needing a separate image.
